About Trikes and Tricycles

There are various trikes available to buy these days. These include wooden, traditional trikes for young children to ride, mostly inside or in the garden. There are steel trikes that can be found quite cheaply, and sometimes come with a kids' TV character designs, such as Fireman Sam, Bob the Builder and of course Thomas the Tank Engine. These trikes often have a handle for parents to push the rider along, or if they are perhaps even hold on to a fast peddler!

Recently there has been a trend for "retro" styled trikes, that look very traditional and classically designed, with a touch of the 1930s about them. These are great fun and look beautiful, but can be quite expensive. After all, a trike is likely to be superseded by a 2 wheel bike in the end, so won't last forever.

If you're looking for a first bike for a little boy, then also consider the 10" bikes and 12" bikes. These come with stabilisers, which can eventually be removed when the rider is confident, and so may prove a longer lasting purchase. Or maybe also consider the amazing balance bikes. These are especially good for children to learn on, as they don't have pedals to complicate matters. Kids just sit on the seat and scoot along with their legs. But a balance bike teaches a child the basics of riding and it is believed that they will make the transfer to a pedal bike much quicker and more smoothly if they have learned to ride a balance bike.
